As the summer ends…

It may be almost the end of summer, but there’s still time for one last weekend fling! Head to the beach one last time before autumn comes and we all have to get back to the grind! Enjoy a few lazy days at the beach, or perhaps a family picnic at your family’s favorite park… even a cool end-of-summer evening snuggled up with the one you love!  While COVID-19 may have wrecked travel plans for some of us, many others can still manage an end-of-summer jaunt to the mountains or the seaside. So let us discuss the numerous advantages of traveling with Turkish Towels (also known as peshtemals) during the summer months, shall we? These towels make far better travelers than, for example, your average terrycloth towel! Here’s why.

First of all, Turkish Towels are downright… well, thin. And this is a positive thing. Did you know these towels dry much quicker than other towels? That means you will have no yucky mildew smell, like often happens with regular towels. But, despite their thinness, they are still lightweight. And this is only one of many advantages Turkish Towels have over other towels, especially when you are traveling. Another advantage lies in the fact that Turkish towels are so lightweight, they will help minimize the weight of your luggage! After all, who wants to lug big thick towels around in their suitcase!? And, once you arrive at your travel destination, they are easy to store because they take up so little room.

Another good thing about Turkish Towels is their versatility. Need a beach towel? Pop one into a beach bag – it’s a perfect fit! Also, although they are large enough to give you good coverage at the beach, they are skinny and easy to carry. In fact, you can take two to the beach – slide one behind your head as a pillow while you lie on the other one and gaze peacefully at the ocean with the one you love on your romantic getaway! You can also wear it as a sarong if you desire. If you happen to be going someplace where the nights are chilly, the Turkish towel works perfectly as a scarf or even a head covering!

And remember, whether you’re headed to Africa on an exotic sightseeing trip or going to Disneyland with the family, you can also make your trip a royal experience by bringing along one of our Sultan Turkish Towels! These extraordinary towels were once used by sultans in the hammam, which is an especially relaxing type of steam bath which has long been used by the Turkish people as a way to unwind and get an invigorating cleanse.

Denizli Peshtemal is a family-owned business that has been producing Turkish towels, as well as  other top-quality products, since 2007. The history of peshtemal

One of the best ways to learn a bit about Turkish culture is through the use of a traditional peshtemal. Did you know the Turkish towel, or “peshtemal,” has been a part of Turkey’s history for hundreds, perhaps even a thousand, years? So let’s go back in time and learn a bit about this very important fashion and cultural staple from Turkey’s history – the peshtemal.

When the Ottoman Empire came into being around the end of the 13th century, the Peshtemal — as we know it today — was created. Before that, towels had been somewhat plain and often poorly made. Then the peshtemal came into being, forever changing the way people viewed towels. The royalty of the Ottoman Empire did everything in style, and Peshtemals were certainly no exception! Because of them, Turkish towels became a status symbol.

Also, it is important to note that Turkish towels have been used for centuries in Turkish bath houses, commonly known as “hammams.” These lovely towels were originally created for the purpose of privacy for those using these public facilities, which included hot steam rooms (similar to the saunas of today,) as well as colder water for the actual process of taking a bath.

However, in Turkey’s history and culture, the Turkish towel, or ‘hammam’, is far more than simply a bath towel. Did you know that Turkish towels were once used in the ceremonial bath a lovely young bride would take before her wedding? Also, when a couple from the Turkish aristocracy was going to be wed, they might be given the gift of a ceremonial bath kit. This would include a special type of soap, a pumice stone, a bowl made of copper for the bath, and — of course — a set of peshtemals. One peshtemal was meant to be wrapped around the shoulders, while the other was to be worn around the waist. This was not unlike the way engaged couples are given special gifts today before they are married. The Turkish towel was often used in many other ceremonies in a person’s life, as well. This gives us a simple idea of how important the Turkish towel has been in the cultural life of the people of Turkey through the ages.

As you can tell, peshtemals are intricately woven into the history and culture of Turkey; just as the excellent materials are woven together by Turkish artisans to create this most amazing piece of beautiful and luxurious

Pure Cotton Face Masks

Why Wear a Mask?

As the corona virus COVID-19 spreads across the globe, this world-wide pandemic requires that each of us be responsible for the safety of ourselves and others. Wearing cotton face masks is one of the most effective things we can do since the virus mainly spreads throughout the respiratory system and can be caught because it travels through the air. Sneezing, coughing, shouting, and even singing by an infected person can endanger hundreds of people.  The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta, an office of the federal government which tracks the disease and publishes effective ways to keep the disease from spreading, says we should “Wear pure cotton face masks everywhere.”

In many parts of the world, it already is not unusual to see people wearing masks in public to protect themselves from air pollution, to control allergies, and to provide safety from any disease that might be contagious. When the virus subsides and we are free to go back to our normal life, we are likely to find that mask-wearing will be a “new normal.” We will have realized that caution is the best prevention against all diseases, and masks will have become a sign of our respect for ourselves and others.

Who do face masks protect? The answer is that they protect everyone — yourself as well as  other people. Many who contract COVID-19 are asymptomatic, and show no symptoms whatsoever. Or sometimes, they have  symptoms so mild that they go unnoticed. Still, such people are contagious and can  unknowingly spread this devastating virus. The people they infect will in turn infect others, and so on. In order to be a responsible citizen of the earth, we must do what we can to protect others as well as ourselves.

Why a pure cotton face mask?

Our durable 100% cotton masks are double-layered, comfortable, and will not constrict your breathing. Unlike disposable paper masks, which can only be used once and then must be thrown away, our masks can be used again and again since they are able to be washed in hot water up to 90⁰C. Wash after wearing once. It is practical to have more than one mask too, since you may have to go out again before your first mask is washed and dried.

Medical researchers say the new coronavirus that causes COVID-19 may spread mainly through respiratory droplets. When an infected person breathes, sneezes, coughs, or even talks, respiratory droplets can carry the disease to a new host that is nearby. By blocking such droplets, thick cotton face masks are helping us to prevent the disease from spreading even further.

The requirements for a safe and effective mask.

In order to be effective, masks need to cover the nose and mouth in a snug fit. They must also cover this area completely. Our well-designed masks meet all requirements for safety. To ensure a snug fit, our masks have sturdy elastic straps loop over each ear. They are also comfortable for long-term wear.

Scientists say it is likely that pandemics will become even more frequent as our planet and its atmosphere continue to change due to climate change. However, at least you can protect yourself and others with our 100% cotton, washable, well-made masks.

Why are you waiting to get our excellent pure cotton face masks?

Not Your Mother’s Beach Towel

Not Your Mother’s Beach Towel

Memorial Day weekend 2020 is in the books, and summer has officially begun! It’s a time of lazy days spent relaxing around the pool, trips to the shore, and vacations on sunny beaches. So, whether your vacation destination happens to be a secluded beach in the Maldives or simply your neighborhood pool, make sure you have all the essentials in your beach bag: Sun tan lotion, sunglasses, perhaps the latest paperback novel, and, for sure, one of our peshtemals — our soft and luxurious Turkish beach towels.

This is definitely not your mother’s beach towel. Nothing like the terrycloth version, these beautiful Turkish peshtemals are the softest and most durable towels on the market. Favored by royalty, aristocracy, celebrities, and luxury hotels and spas, they have been the last word in luxury since at least the 17th century and the advent of Turkish baths or hamams. The peshtemal  is said to be the first towel ever invented. But you don’t have to be royalty or have celebrity status to enjoy the lushness, comfort, and efficiency of our peshtemals. Woven from super-long-fiber, high-quality Turkish cotton (the highest quality cotton grown on Earth), your peshtemal won’t grow threadbare or develop frayed edges after a few uses. It will actually become more soft and fluffy through successive washings and dryings. Additionally, you’ll be amazed that, in spite of its light weight and thinness, it is super absorbent. This means your peshtemal will dry quickly, either on the line or in the dryer, and it will not eventually pick up that annoying mildew scent that many regular cotton towels acquire. It will remain fresh and comfortable for years to come.

Moreover, you’ll find your Turkish peshtemal is versatile. It can be used for more than just a beach or pool towel. Its many uses include bath towel, beach blanket, travel blanket, camping towel, yoga mat, even as a sarong. And you will find your peshtemal is plenty soft enough to wrap the baby – straight from his (or her!) bath.

Our peshtemals are also available in a wide variety of luscious colors, patterns, and weaves. Our weaves include both jacquard and dobby; and our own custom-made dyes make our products wholly unique. Embroidered designs are also available. Our prices range from low to high. If you’ve never experienced wrapping up in one of these luxurious towels, it’s time you pampered yourself. Once you’ve known the feel of a peshtemal, you’ll never go back to terrycloth!

Denizli Peshtemal is a family-owned business. We have been producing Turkish towels and other quality products since 2007. Our towels and other items sell not only in Turkey but also to countries throughout the world, including the U.S., Canada, E.U. countries, Australia, and New Zealand. Don’t let this summer pass you by without the comfort of a Denizli Peshtemal.

The Advantages of Peshtemals or Turkish Towels

Why should I choose a peshtemals or turkish towels over a plain terry cloth towel?

It’s like the difference between driving a luxury car or an economy car. Eating at a 3-star Michelin restaurant or a greasy fast-food chain. Shopping at an upscale boutique or a cheap thrift shop. Like… well, ok, you get the point! And yes, peshtemals or turkish towels really are that much better than regular terry cloth towels! But don’t just take our word for it! Let us tell you why.

  • Superior Makeup- Peshtemals are made of Turkish Cotton — and Turkish Cotton really is some of the most versatile material in the world. This type of cotton has fibers that are much longer than in other, more basic types of cotton (like terry cloth.) In a towel, the rule of thumb is the longer the fibers, the smoother the feel. Therefore, peshtemals — otherwise known as Turkish towels — are much smoother than their bulkier cotton competitors.  And because of their super-thinness – as opposed to the bulkiness of terry cloth towels — they will air dry extremely quickly! Also, Turkish Cotton is often hand-woven on looms in Turkey — unlike terry cloth, which tends to be mass produced and machine made. This special care ensures that Turkish cotton is of much higher quality than terry cloth. We might also add that Turkish Cotton is incredibly durable, which means you are likely to be able to enjoy your new peshtemal for a very long time! And yet another perk — this amazing Turkish Cotton also makes peshtemals far softer than regular cotton towels! And you will find that the more you wash them, the softer they become! This is different from other cotton towels, which start to fall apart and become brittle the more you wash them.
  • Better absorbency – To some people, the fact that Turkish Towels are so absorbent comes as a surprise, because the material seems to be so incredibly thin. However, it is a well-known fact that they absorb water better than, for example, the average terry cloth towel. Their secret lies in the longer cotton fibers we described above. Yes, those affect the towel’s absorbency, too! And another bonus…  When you hang a peshtemal up to dry, it will dry far more quickly than, say, a terry cloth towel. Therefore, there is less time for bacteria — or even mold – to set in!
  • Size – Quite frankly, the size of a peshtemal is just perfect! And, because it’s so much thinner than those other, more bulky cotton towels, it will more easily fit anywhere, whether it be the bathroom or a beach tote. Yet it is still larger than a regular-sized towel, making it completely usable as a bath sheet. Really, what’s not to love!?
  • Versatility- Peshtemals will be equally fitting in a smaller space. The traditional appearance of a peshtemal gives it a classic vibe that allows it to stand out anywhere!  Also, peshtemals can have many interesting uses — besides just a towel. People online have come up with some really entertaining creative uses for the peshtemal, including: A scarf, a boat towel, a lounge chair cover, curtains, a receiving blanket for new babies, or even a blanket fort for your kids! Hey, it’s always great to think outside the box, right?

What is a peshtemal or turkish towel?

Just what is a peshtemal or turkish towel, anyway?

This is a valid question, because although the term is very common in some parts of the world, it’s virtually unknown in others. For example, some people in western cultures remain unfamiliar with the peshtemal, or Turkish towel. So let’s explore this all-important domestic and cultural staple, which is, quite simply, the best towel available anywhere. (It’s true that we are a pestemal company, so we might be a little biased. But it’s well-known that Turkish towels really are the softest and most durable towels available in the market.) In any event, it should be noted that the peshtemal may also be known as the Hammam towel

These multipurpose towels as they look today largely date back to about the 17th century, when the first Turkish baths, or “Hammams,” were built in Bursa, Turkey. However, there is evidence that the origins of the Turkish towel date back even further than that – to roughly the 7th century AD. We might also point out that this classic towel was favored by royalty of the Ottoman empire. So if you’ve ever had the desire to live like a sultan, having an authentic Turkish towel on hand will definitely add to your luxury experience!

So how are Peshtemals different from other towels?

We’re so glad you asked! There are numerous advantages to peshtemals over average towels; so many, in fact, we barely have time to list them all here. Let’s start with the basics. First of all, Turkey is famous for producing some of the highest quality cotton on the planet. Turkish cotton has super-long fibers – much longer than the basic cotton fibers used in other types of towels. This helps to make Turkish towels incredibly fluffy and soft, and they remain so through many successive washings. Additionally, it means that peshtemals won’t eventually get threadbare, the way regular cotton towels do. Finally, we should add that Turkish cotton also makes these towels super absorbent.

And you know that “mildew” smell you sometimes get with regular cotton towels? You won’t find that with a Turkish towel. The reason is that these extraordinary towels are so lightweight, they dry faster than the average towel. There is no time for mildew to set in.

Finally, one of the biggest advantages of Turkish towels is their overall durability. We have a friend who has had a Turkish towel since – get this! – 1991. It is possible for these towels – which are hand-woven in Turkish looms – to last that long. That’s partly because, unlike the average mass-produced towel, a Turkish towel has been crafted with the ultimate care.

Are you convinced yet? Head on over to our shop to create your own peshtemal experience!
